Kawhi Leonard’s Honest Confession: Only Wants to Wear the Raptors Jersey—Wants to Make History Again

Kawhi Leonard, the “King of the North” who led the Toronto Raptors to their first-ever championship, is set to return to the team this season. In a recent interview with TSN, he looked back on that title run and dropped a bombshell: the only team he ever wanted to play for was the Raptors. He flat-out said he had zero interest in wearing any other jersey.

“I didn’t want to wear another team’s jersey,” Leonard admitted. “I played well in Toronto—we did something great together. Honestly, I wanted to keep making history in that city.”

That raw confession set fans buzzing. Rewind to the 2018–19 season: Leonard put on an otherworldly performance, dragging the Raptors through one playoff series after another, eventually hoisting the NBA trophy. He also walked away with his second Finals MVP award—no debate there.

Sure, he later chose to go home and suit up for the LA Clippers. But listening to him now, it’s hard to ignore just how much those championship days in Toronto still mean to him. They occupy a special place in his career—maybe the most special.

This summer, after all that “secret agreement” noise, Leonard managed to land back with the Raptors anyway. So here’s the real question: can a 35-year-old forward still lead the maple-leaf crew back to the mountaintop? That might be the biggest storyline of the new season.
